Hello there, and welcome to another edition of our Meet a Pro interview series, where you’ll get to know the FreightPros with some hard-hitting, “60 Minute”-type questions. THIS IS REAL JOURNALISM PEOPLE!!! Today, we’re interviewing Evan Larsen about surfing in Central Texas (whaaa??), but don’t forget to check out all our previous interviews right here. It’s always nice to know the people you’re doing business with, am I right? Now, to the interview… Position: Account Executive Hometown: Austin, TX How long have you been a Freightpro? A year and a half. In one word, describe the freight industry. Stressful. How long have you lived in Austin? Born and raised here. Grew up in South Austin, where Mopac runs out. End of the road. What’s your favorite thing about Austin? The Mexican food. Easy. What’s your favorite Mexican joint? I’d have to say Maudi’s Tex-Mex. Or Polvo’s. Polvo’s is an office favorite it seems. What’s the worst thing about Austin? The traffic. I call it, “Mo-park.” Good one. Where is the coolest place you’ve ever visited? Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. It’s where I learned to surf. I still surf. What? Where do you surf? The lake. It’s called “wake-surfing.” How’s it different from wake-boarding? Well, you surf. You’re on a surfboard. You get behind the boat and get going, and then you throw the rope up to the boat and you ride the wave. Epic. It’s great. Sounds like it. Moving on, what’s your favorite movie or book? Favorite movie is “Mean Girls.” I highly suggest checking out the Alamo Drafthouse quote-along for that movie. I also like, “Clueless.” I don’t read much, but when I was young I loved Dr. Seuss books. “Green Eggs And Ham,” was my favorite. Excellent choice with GE&H. My childhood favorite as well. What’s your favorite sport? Is cheerleading a sport? Sure. Okay, cheerleading then. I used to coach cheerleading. Alright, it’s time for the Desert Island Round!!! Very exciting. So, what are three food or drinks you’re taking with?Micheladas, chips & queso, and my mom’s tuna casserole. Sounds weird, but it’s delicious. One musician or band you’d take? King George…George Strait! Yikes. What about one thing you couldn’t live without? Tempur-Pedic mattress. That’s an excellent answer. Probably the best we’ve had. I like my sleep. Props. So what do you like about working here at Freightpros? The culture. It’s very different from corporate America, and as we’ve doubled in size year after year, we still hold on to strong principles. We still keep our employees happy and still make customers our number one priority. Usually, when a business grows like ours has, you lose something. But I don’t think we’ve lost anything. It’s the best place that I’ve ever worked, and I feel like I can hang out with anyone here outside of work. So that’s cool. What’s your office radio station of choice? Texas country. I’d blast it as loud as possible just to annoy you, because I know you hate it. Not true! Well, not ENTIRELY true. Moving on… what about your keg choice? Pacifico. I love anything and everything Mexican. Being a local, you must have a pretty good lay of the land. What are some of your favorite things to do around town? Anything to do with the lake and the water really. I love to run on Town Lake with my dog, Callie Anne. What kind of dog is she? Heinz 57. I’ve never heard that before. That’s clever. She’s a mutt. I do what I can. Final question. What’s your hidden talent? I can fit my whole fist in my mouth. Yes! That’s the sort of answer that I’m looking for! Yeah, you’re welcome.
