We’ve made the decision to re-brand Meridian Logistics as FreightPros and there has been a ton of thought and contemplation that has gone into that decision. We aren’t making any major changes behind the scenes to the actual freight brokerage side of our business, but we are going to make a major push on the education side of our business and we thought the FreightPros name and platform that we will continually build was more suited toward our future endeavors.Through the thousands of freight transactions we’ve done over the years, we have been continually surprised at how little of our new and existing customers actually know about the mechanics of less than truckload (LTL) and truckload (TL) shipping. Part of our job is to educate these new and experienced shippers on the best practices for shipping their freight. From topics related to carrier selection, understanding the basics of LTL pricing, packaging, the core differences between TL and LTL shipping, etc. The list could go on and on. We’ve realized there are very few resources out there dedicated to empowering small to medium sized business to make the best freight decisions possible. There is a plethora of resources dedicated to macro- and micro-economic shipping issues or high level logistics optimization, that big business no doubt takes advantage of. However, the shipper doing anywhere from 1-100 freight moves a month has kind of been left in the dark and we plan on developing a resource of information for those shippers, from a broker’s perspective, that they can draw on to improve their business decisions. We are excited to begin this process and will dedicate blog posts, white papers, demos, and videos to pertinent freight shipping topics as we go forward. Our brokerage team will remain dedicated to meeting our core goals of transparency, efficiency, and industry leading customer service for our freight customers. We are excited about this new initiative and look forward to feedback and any comments for improvement as we go through this process. In regards to the blog, I am going to be writing about a lot more than just freight. I’m excited to begin to let everyone see a little bit behind the scenes of a relatively young company (we are in our fifth year) and into some of the business decisions and tactical direction we take toward providing a kick-ass experience to our thousands of customers while trying to continue to build an incredible culture in our home office in Austin, TX. Excited for this! -Chris Clever
