Recently, the FreightPros Ping-Pong crown was claimed by Emilio. The final match of our ping-pong tournament was an epic duel between our president, Chris, and the young upstart challenger with a penchant for freight invoices. It was blood, sweat, and tears, baby. And while the rest of us, truckload team and solutions specialists alike, cheered on the friendly competition, it got me thinking about the importance of keeping an active office. Per science, sitting is the new smoking. It’s a sobering reality, one not confined to our own shores, that states the ill-effects on our health of sitting, staring at a computer all day. Of course, ping-pong probably isn’t anyone’s idea of a strenuous exercise routine, but the fact remains that getting up and moving is good for you. Science says so. At FreightPros, we take the idea of an active office very seriously. One of our core values is Balance, be it between our work and home lives, or intense productivity and having a beer at the end of a stressful work day. As we work to foster our community of brokers, it’s important for us to stand up and stretch, both our backs and our brains. An active office improves our ability to work better, faster, and ultimately, safer. And we put our money where our mouth is. Apart from the stress-relieving ping pong games, we also have brought in yoga instructors for sessions in our office after work. It’s a casual environment, one for yoga beginners rather than intense Bikram professionals, and it helps with our bodies and minds after sitting on the phone all day, or tapping away at a keyboard, our eyes red and exhausted from booking residential pickups. And it’s not just in the office that we find time to move. Over the past couple years we’ve had a FreightPros Dodgeball team. On an individual level, many of us compete in the Austin Capitol 10K, coach youth soccer, or volunteer at Urban Roots. At FreightPros, we’ve discovered that the key to a happy office is an active office. We’ll still get you those freight quotes, track your hot shipments, or assist you with your damaged freight. But we’ll do it more efficiently, because we’re not office zombies with fried brains. Who would have thought yoga and freight would look so good together.
